My Morning Jacket is set to release their 10th studio album, Is, on March 21 via ATO Records. This marks a significant shift for the band, as frontman Jim James has, for the first time, entrusted production duties to Brendan O’Brien, renowned for his work with artists like Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam.
The album’s lead single, “Time Waited,” is now available, accompanied by a music video directed by Danny Clinch. The track originated from a piano sample by pedal-steel guitarist Buddy Emmons, which James looped during a walk, inspiring the song’s melodies. The lyrics, inspired by a dream, explore the fluidity of time and its adaptability when one follows their heart.
Reflecting on the album’s title, James explains that “Is” signifies presence in the moment, with the songs emerging from a desire to connect with something beyond the human experience. He hopes the album provides listeners with peace amid the world’s chaos.
In addition to the album release, My Morning Jacket will host their annual One Big Holiday festival at Seascape Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida, from April 3-5, 2025.
The tracklist for Is includes:
1. Out in the Open
2. Half a Lifetime
3. Everyday Magic
4. I Can Hear Your Love
5. Time Waited
6. Beginning From the Ending
7. Lemme Know
8. Squid Ink
