St. Louis, Missouri-based emo rockers Dialogue continue to bolster their place in the scene with their latest release, Everyone Is Waiting For You. The three tracks wash over the listener with waves of raw emotion. With intensely personal yet relatable themes of loss, bitterness, and heartbreak, each song feels like its own unique chapter of the same sad story.
“Fix Bayonets” opens the album with a powerful anthem of loss and perseverance. The track’s dynamic shifts from a quiet, introspective introduction to an explosive, manic climax of a hard-fought struggle, with the line “The promised world has nothing to offer” evoking a desperation to press onward in the face of adversity. The big, heavy, rhythmic outro is reminiscent of a defiant march, driving the song forward to its conclusion, commanding the listener’s attention, and setting a dramatic tone for the rest of the EP.
In stark contrast to the uncertainty and despair of the first track, “Cutthroat” is a scathing message to an individual who seems to be preoccupied, vain, and no longer worthy of the writer’s attention. The cutting lyrics convey equal parts disdain and indifference. Musically, the track relies on aggressive riffs to channel the angry tone, transforming resentment into music.
Closing the EP, “All Work, No Play” connects the listener to the familiar human experience of heartbreak. “Give her a rose, and it’s always the thorns” captures the pain of unreciprocated love in a one-sided relationship. The wailing guitars and sincere vocals create a sense of longing, while the steady, mid-tempo rhythm mimics the tiresome repetition of the writer’s attempts to save a failing relationship.
Everyone Is Waiting For You is a blend of searing honesty and vulnerability. Dialogue’s three new songs each provide a unique perspective while maintaining a cohesive arc. They address feelings of loss, animosity, and mourning with sincerity.
For fans of emo and lovers of music that cuts to the core, Everyone Is Waiting For You is a must-add to your rotation and is, so far, my most listened-to album of 2025 by a wide margin.
